Professor Emeka Emmanuel Oguzie is a globally recognized scholar in electrochemistry, materials science, and sustainable energy. He holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry and currently serves as Professor of Chemistry and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Development & Innovation) at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), where his leadership has driven a 1000% increase in externally sourced research funding.
He has authored over 230 peer-reviewed publications, with more than 13,000 citations and an h-index of 57. Internationally respected for pioneering research on natural product-based corrosion inhibitors, Prof. Oguzie integrates experimental electrochemistry, DFT and MD simulations, and clean energy innovation. Since 2022, he has been listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier.
Prof. Oguzie established the Africa Centre of Excellence for Future Energies & Electrochemical Systems (ACE-FUELS), a World Bank/AFD-funded initiative addressing Africa’s energy and materials challenges, where he led the development of advanced infrastructure for R&D and scale-up of diverse energy technologies. In 2024, he was appointed Battery Ambassador for Nigeria by the UK’s Faraday Institution, in recognition of his contributions to next-generation energy storage. His work is bolstered by strong international collaborations with research institutions in the United Kingdom and China, including joint research, staff exchange, and policy engagement. He also contributes to national research strategy through roles such as member of the TETFund National Research Fund Screening and Monitoring Committee and lead trainer for research grantsmanship.
A Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria since 2023, he has supervised over 30 PhD students and is widely engaged in doctoral assessment and science communication.
Prof. Oguzie exemplifies scientific excellence, interdisciplinary leadership, and national relevance. His election as Fellow would significantly advance the Academy’s mission to promote impactful science for sustainable development.
